Product Overview

A 12V lithium pack does not charge the way a lead-acid battery does, and this LiFePO4 battery charger is built around that difference: a constant 14.6V, up to 20A of current, and a profile tuned to lithium iron phosphate rather than to flooded cells.

In practice this deep cycle battery charger lives where the batteries live — the dock box, the camper locker, the workshop bench — and gets plugged in whenever a pack comes back flat. It suits the 12V side of a boat, a caravan or motorhome house bank, a trolling motor set-up, an off-grid cabin circuit, or a rotation of 12V packs used for pumps, lights and backup power.

Two things it is not: it is not a lead-acid, AGM or gel charger, and it is not an engine starting charger. Both need a different profile, and neither belongs on this unit.

If you are stepping up from a small maintenance charger, the change you notice first is time — a morning on charge instead of a whole weekend — and the second is the connection, because the battery cable stays bolted to the posts and the charger simply unplugs.

Battery Wake-Up Function

Lithium packs protect themselves. When a BMS senses over-discharge it opens the circuit, and the battery that read 12.8V last month now shows nothing at the terminals — 0V on a multimeter, and a normal charger that simply refuses to start.

This deep cycle battery charger has a 0V charging mode for exactly that situation. It applies a low wake-up current so the BMS sees a charger attached, re-closes the circuit, and ordinary 20A charging can begin. A pack that looked finished often comes back and holds charge again.

It is worth knowing the limit. A wake-up recovers a battery that is merely asleep behind its own protection circuit; it cannot rebuild a pack with a dead cell or internal damage. If the LED never leaves green, or the charger keeps restarting without the pack taking current, test the battery before you trust it for a trip.

Where this matters most is anything that sits unused — a marine deep cycle battery left on a mooring through the off-season, a camper battery parked up for months, a spare pack on a shelf. Those are the packs that trip their own protection and then get blamed for being dead.

Charging Speed & Output

• 20A held at 14.6V, roughly 300W. That is enough output to treat this as your main charging station rather than a top-up device, and it is the figure that separates it from every 5A unit in the drawer.
• Half a pack before lunch. A 12V 100Ah battery reaches about 50% in two and a half hours on the full 20A, so a morning charge is a realistic plan for a day on the water.
• Four times the pace of a 5A unit. If you are replacing a small 5A deep cycle battery charger, the same recharge drops from a full day to a couple of hours.
• Works with the pack you already own. On a 12V deep cycle battery of 200Ah, expect roughly double the 100Ah timing — plan an overnight session rather than a lunch break.
• Lithium only, and that is the point. This is a LiFePO4 battery charger with no chemistry switch to set wrong, so there is no lead-acid mode that could sit a lithium pack at the wrong voltage.
• A taper you can plan around. Current stays high through the main charge stage and falls away as the pack approaches full, which is why the last stretch always takes longer than the first half.

Protection & Status Indicators

• Over-voltage and over-current protection. If supply or draw drifts outside the safe window for a 12V LiFePO4 battery, the charger backs off instead of pushing through it.
• Short-circuit protection. Touching the leads together, or a cable damaged in a locker, trips the unit rather than welding the connector.
• Thermal protection with a working fan. The fan pulls air through the ribbed metal housing so the electronics stay stable during a long 20A session; expect a soft whir, around 50 dB.
• Automatic shut-off at full charge. Once the pack tops out the charger stops delivering current, which is what makes an evening charge on a deep cycle RV battery a set-and-forget job.
• A two-colour light instead of a screen. Red means current is flowing, green means fully charged or nothing connected — no menus, no percentage to interpret.
• Front switch and vent. The switch kills output without you pulling the plug, and the vent keeps the airflow path open while the unit is running.
• Built for dock and locker duty. As a deep cycle marine battery charger it expects to be plugged in and unplugged repeatedly around boats, so keep it on a dry surface and it will not mind the routine.
• Protection is not a substitute for a check. Look at the ring terminals each season; a corroded joint makes any charger work harder than it should.

Connection & Setup

1. Unpack the charger, the battery cable with ring terminals, the quick connector and the printed quick-start sheet, and check the cable insulation before it goes anywhere near a battery.
2. Set the charger on a dry, flat surface close enough that the battery cable reaches the posts without being pulled tight, with the fan grille unobstructed.
3. Identify the positive and negative posts — M8 studs on most marine deep cycle battery installations — and clean off any white crust before you fit anything.
4. Bolt the red ring terminal to positive and the black one to negative, then check both are tight; a loose joint on a 12 volt deep cycle battery heats up quickly under 20A.
5. Push the two halves of the quick connector together until they seat, plug the AC cord into a 200–240V outlet and switch the unit on.
6. Watch the light: red while current is flowing, green once the pack is full or when nothing is connected at the far end.
7. To finish, switch off and unplug the AC cord first, then release the quick connector — never pull the connector apart while the charger is working.
8. Leave the ring terminals on your 12V deep cycle battery between sessions so the next charge is a five-second job rather than a fifteen-minute one.

Use & Care

Keep the air path open. The ribbed metal housing is part of the cooling, so do not bury the charger under a jacket or a boat cover while it is working, and leave a hand's width of space around the fan grille.

Do not treat it as a universal charger. A 12 volt deep cycle battery in lithium iron phosphate is the target; flooded lead-acid, AGM and gel packs need a different profile, and a starting battery is not a deep-cycle load at all.

Look at the ring terminals once a season. Corrosion or a loose bolt adds resistance, the charger works harder, and the pack charges more slowly than it should. Clean the posts, refit the terminals and check they are tight.

Route the battery cable so it does not lie across a hatch, a hot engine part or a sharp edge, and coil it loosely when the charger is not in use rather than kinking it behind the connector.

At the end of the season, unplug the AC cord, release the quick connector and store the charger indoors where it stays dry. The battery cable can stay on the battery if the terminals are protected.

Finally, be patient with a pack that has been in storage: bring it out, check the voltage, and let the wake-up routine run before you decide the battery is finished.
